…accepts its terms. After all, berge’s philosophy is firmly rooted in the philosophy of Nils Holger Moormann. Eliminate everything that is unnecessary—keep everything you need. Seventeen individually designed accommodations, as well as our common areas, are available to our guests.
the place berge
A house with over 350 years of history. Located in Hohenaschau, right at the foot of Burgberg Hill. Records show that the “Dorfbäck”
was first established here in 1671; it later became an inn and, most recently, a youth hostel. Much has changed over time. Renovations, additions, and false ceilings made the original structure barely recognizable. Where the vaulted entrance hall stands today, there used to be a dark cold storage room. To understand how the house was originally conceived, the old structure had to be uncovered and partially rearranged. Only then did the design process begin.
berge was developed by Nils Holger Moormann, known for the design and production of minimalist furniture. berge, too, is conceived like a piece of furniture—with the aim of lasting for generations. Natural materials define the house: floorboards, clay plaster, stone, along with black steel and birch plywood. Old and new create a dynamic interplay. Everything has its place. Each of the 17 units was individually designed. For this, berge has been honored with numerous international design awards.
in berge
In addition to the 17 design apartments, berge also offers all guests spaces for communal gatherings.
The Literatenkammerl is open for everyone to use. The Große Stube can be rented by groups of up to 25 people for parties, events, and workshops.
in the garden
Despite its location on a busy street, the house remains quiet thanks to its thick walls. The same goes for our beautiful garden, which, with its benches and lounge chairs, invites you to relax and chat with other guests.
around berge
Clean streams, clear lakes, rolling hills, and towering cliffs. Nestled between the Kampenwand and Lake Chiemsee, the Chiemgau region has much to offer—for sports enthusiasts as well as for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The Kampenwandbahn is just a few minutes’ walk from the village and takes you up to 1,550 meters, where, depending on the season, charming alpine pastures and ski lifts offer plenty to do. Those who prefer lakes to mountains will also find plenty of options in our region. In addition to Lake Chiemsee, many other small and large lakes provide a refreshing escape in the summer. Numerous mountain huts, restaurants, and beer gardens invite you to stop for a break.
