about berge
We love Chiemgau—its diverse nature, clear air, and culture with all its traditions and values. And we love good design and beautiful spaces. At berge, we want to share these special features with our guests. Our holiday apartments in Aschau im Chiemgau offer space for solo travelers and couples, families, small groups, and company offsites. For nature and design lovers and for anyone who simply wants to get away from it all.
Would you rather work? Corporate events, workshops, and workations are also possible at berge at any time. The inspiring atmosphere for all creative processes comes free of charge. On request, we can also arrange long-term stays of up to 6 weeks.

Can't get the light by your bed to turn on?
That's what the lighting plan is for!
If the lighting plan doesn't help:
Then you'll just have to do without that nice light.
Simply put and thought. Because the philosophy of our guest house is consistent with the attitude of Nils Holger Moormann. Leave out everything that is unnecessary. No luxury, no Michelin-starred cuisine, not even a TV. A little peculiar, as mountains tend to be. But in return, new perspectives open up between all the nooks and crannies.
The place berge
Actually, a Moormann hostel was never planned. But when the Moormann company acquired a plot of land right next to its premises to build a warehouse, it came with a dilapidated, listed historic building as a bonus. This building—which had been the headquarters of the “Dorfbäck”
since 1671, which later supplied the lord of the castle on the adjacent castle hill as the court baker, and was then used as a restaurant and most recently as a youth hotel — was so dilapidated that it would not have survived the approaching harsh mountain winter without emergency roof repairs.
And so the ball started rolling: a new roof only makes sense if the attic is also repaired. However, an attic needs load-bearing floors underneath it. Step by step, the historic structures – insofar as they still existed – were explored and uncovered. As much of the substance as possible was to be preserved. This created an exciting contrast between creaking floorboards and black steel. Clay plaster walls and exposed stone walls meet large glass surfaces. berge was awarded numerous international design prizes for this.
In berge
In addition to our 17 individually designed vacation accommodations, berge offers all guests space for communal stays.
The Literatenkammerl (literary chamber) has all kinds of stories to discover and immerse yourself in—or even space to work, if that’s what you have planned.
Our cozy Große Stube (large parlor) can be rented by groups of up to 25 people for events, parties, or workshops.
Outside the door …
Beyond berge lies a busy road. ... but behind the house is our beautiful garden: a retreat with a view of the Kampenwand mountain. But thanks to thick walls, it remains nice and quiet inside. Whether you take this road or hike off the beaten track, you’re always on the right track, because there’s so much to discover.
In the garden
Almost 800m² of green space with a sun deck, benches and loungers, herb garden and boules pavilion invite you to sunbathe, relax, chat with other guests and play games.
around berge
berge is a place that — while remaining unobtrusive — opens up the view to the outside world. To the impressive mountain backdrop of the Kampenwand, for example. A place that invites you to slow down and, at the same time, offers activities in a vacation region throughout all seasons. Here, you can enjoy spending your days with a hiking backpack on your back, discovering the Chiemgau landscape with its mountain panoramas and lakes on foot or by bike. Look forward to a cozy stop at one of the countless huts, restaurants, and beer gardens — and to the prospect of returning to berge afterwards.
