On and in the water
From nearby Lake Bärnsee to Lake Chiemsee, just 7 km away, the Chiemgau region offers countless opportunities for swimming, boating, or simply dangling your legs in the water.
Quiet swimming spots
Small but beautiful bathing spots on Lake Chiemsee offer privacy and individual adventures, allowing you to experience the lake in a completely different way. You’re never completely alone on Lake Chiemsee. However, the Schöllkopf bathing spot and the Felden lido are certainly among the quieter places to retreat to.
Beach bars in Übersee
Several beach bars have also sprung up on the much livelier shore in Übersee, and for good reason: there’s no better place to sink your feet into the sand and enjoy the most beautiful sunset on Lake Chiemsee with a beer or cocktail.

Nature reserve Achendelta
A completely different form of relaxation can be found just a few hundred meters away, in the Achendelta nature reserve. With a little luck and a good pair of binoculars, you can watch curlews, lapwings, or dunlins searching for food from the observation tower.
Boat hire
Those who prefer to be their own captain will find what they are looking for at numerous boat rental stations around the lake. Various types of boats are available, from electric boats and kayaks to stand-up paddle boards. So cast off, pack your swimwear and picnic, and set course for the sun.
Herren- and Fraueninsel
The ‘Herreninsel’ and ‘Fraueninsel’ islands are also always worth a visit and can be easily reached by ferry. Culture, including the royal palace, and gastronomy come together on the two islands and are waiting to be discovered. They are also always worth a visit and can be easily reached by ferry. Beyond Lake Chiemsee
However, swimming and relaxation in nature are by no means limited to Lake Chiemsee. Lake Simssee, the lakes around Eggstätt, the somewhat hidden Lake Hofstätter, and the natural outdoor pool in Aschau are also ideal places to cool off on hot summer days.
Moor- and thermal baths
The Aschau Moorbad is also a recommended destination and is fed by the distinctive dark brown moor water from the Bärnsee nature reserve.
And for the cooler or wetter seasons, there is the beautiful thermal spa in Bad Endorf, 30 minutes away.
